5 Tips for Natural Family Photos
Family photos are supposed to capture connection, but too often they end up looking stiff and forced. Here are five tips to help your next family session feel natural and fun. First, do not ask everyone to say cheese — it creates identical, frozen smiles. Instead, prompt genuine interactions ('tell your little sister a joke', 'cuddle in close'). Second, keep kids engaged with movement — walking together, twirling, lifting them up. Movement creates energy. Third, shoot plenty of in-between moments. Some of the best family photos happen when people think the camera is not looking. Fourth, bring snacks for the kids and coffee for the adults. A happy crew makes for happy photos. Fifth, trust your photographer. We do this every week, and the moment you stop posing and start being yourself, the magic happens.
