Showcasing a variety of artworks created by talented Ghanaian artists using Charcoal as a primary tool, base and medium of expressing human emotions and conditions.
Art Center Popup brings together a group of talented Ghanaian artists who work in charcoal — one of the oldest and most direct materials an artist can use. Here it becomes the tool, the base and the medium itself, and the artists use it to explore human emotion, memory and the conditions people live through every day.
Charcoal doesn't forgive mistakes, and it doesn't hide anything. Every smudge, erasure and heavy stroke stays on the page. The result is work that feels raw, honest and close. You'll see portraits that hold your gaze, scenes from everyday Ghanaian life, and abstract pieces that turn feelings into texture and shadow.
A curated collection of original charcoal drawings, from small studies to large statement pieces
Meet the artists. Talk with the people behind the work and hear how each piece came together.
Live drawing sessions. Watch charcoal work come together in real time.
Original works for sale. Take a piece home and support local artists directly.
A relaxed, open space to slow down, look closely and talk about art with other visitors
Charcoal is made by burning wood, so it is literally formed through transformation. That makes it a fitting medium for these artists. Their work is about people going through change: joy and grief, struggle and resilience, the quiet moments and the heavy ones. With just black, white and the many greys in between, they show how much can be said with very little.
This pop-up is for anyone who loves art, collects it, or is simply curious. You don't need to know anything about art to enjoy it. Come with friends or family, or on your own, and leave with a new view of Ghanaian creativity.
Photography is welcome unless a piece is marked otherwise
Artworks bought at the pop-up can be collected at the end of the event, or delivery can be arranged
