How to Care for Kente & Silk Pieces

We get asked this constantly, and the answer is both simpler and more important than most people realise. Kente and silk both reward careful ownership — treat them right and they will last decades. Treat them casually and you will lose the colour, the drape, and the structure far sooner than you should. Here is our at-home guide.

## The Five Rules

- **Never machine wash** — Kente panels and pure silk should only ever be dry-cleaned by a specialist

- **Always store on padded hangers** to keep the shoulders from collapsing

- **Keep out of direct sunlight** when storing — fading is permanent and silent

- **Spot-clean gently** with a damp white cloth if something spills — never rub

- **Steam, do not iron** for wrinkles; a handheld steamer is the safest option

If a piece has been in the back of your wardrobe for a while, bring it to our studio and we can assess it, freshen it up, and make any small repairs before you wear it again. Think of it as a health check for your favourite clothes.
