Cement Grades Explained

Not all cement is the same, and picking the wrong grade for the wrong job is one of the most expensive mistakes a new builder can make. The two most common grades on the Ghanaian market are 32.5 and 42.5, and the numbers refer to the compressive strength in megapascals after 28 days. That single difference changes where each should be used and how much you actually need.

## When to Use Each

- **32.5N** — non-load-bearing walls, plastering, mortar for brickwork

- **42.5N** — structural concrete, columns, beams, slabs, foundations

- **42.5R** — where you need early strength gain (cold weather, fast schedules)

- **Sulphate-resistant** — coastal or high-groundwater sites
